The Lola Project

The Lola Project is a fun, heartfelt nonprofit dedicated to helping displaced Old English Sheepdogs (OES) find safe, loving new homes. Inspired by my own dog, Lola, this mission began when I was contacted by breeders needing help to re-home dogs that had been returned. Through these connections, I realized how great the need was — and how I could make a difference.

Old English Sheepdogs are a truly special breed, full of personality, charm, and unique needs. They’re often irresistible as puppies, but as they grow — usually around 18 months to two years old — their energy levels, grooming needs, and temperament can present challenges that many families aren’t prepared for. Unfortunately, this leads to many OES being re-homed when their families can no longer meet those needs.

What started as a few connections has grown into a passionate effort to give these wonderful dogs the second chance they deserve. The Lola Project not only helps find the right homes for Old English Sheepdogs, but also provides assistance along the way — from helping with travel expenses, to funding vet appointments, vaccinations, haircuts, and grooming to get them ready for their fresh start. Every dog’s placement is carefully considered, matching them with owners who understand the breed and can provide the stable, loving environment they need.

So far, we’ve successfully re-homed seven Old English Sheepdogs, and each story is close to my heart. One of the most personal was my own dog, Moose. When we moved cities, Moose struggled to adjust to the changes in our lifestyle, and I knew he needed a different environment to be happy. Thanks to the community I’d built through The Lola Project, Moose found his perfect home — pre-screened and with someone I trust deeply. Today, he’s thriving with his dad, Bob, in Butte, Montana, living his best life.

We’ve also been blessed to welcome Buster into our family through this re-homing journey. Buster, a retired breeding dog who had been a father to over 40 puppies, had lived in several homes before finding his forever home with us in Bozeman, Montana. Today, he enjoys what we lovingly call his “bougie life,” full of comfort, care, and love.

The Lola Project is about more than just re-homing dogs. It’s about community, compassion, and giving these beautiful, high-maintenance dogs the chance to live their happiest lives — while bringing joy to the families who welcome them. It’s an ongoing labor of love, and I’m honored to continue this work for the breed that has given so much to me.
